Roberta Bell is the Executive Director of the Vanderbilt Institutional Research Group (VIRG). Roberta has been in the IR office at Vanderbilt since 2003. She received her MA and PhD degrees in Sociology from Indiana University and her bachelor degree from the University of Washington. Previous to Vanderbilt she was the Director of IR at Central Arizona College and Senior IR Analyst at Indiana University. She has worked on data management for decision support, accreditation, enrollment management, and a wide-variety of other IR projects. Roberta leads the VIRG office projects and staff. She also chairs the Institutional Data Governance Committee and is responsible to the Vice Chancellors for that effort across the institution.

Senior Associate Director

Richard J. Iannelli, Ph.D., is the Senior Associate Director of Research and Analytics. Richard came to Vanderbilt in 1998 to attend the Vanderbilt/VAMC Medical Center professional psychology internship. Following this, he worked as a staff psychologist at the Vanderbilt Psychological and Counseling Center until moving to institutional research in 2001. Richard’s current areas of focus within enrollment management are analytics regarding undergraduate financial aid, admissions, and student performance. Other research interests include ethical decision making and impaired professionals. Richard’s volunteer and outreach activities are currently directed towards impaired psychologists in the Middle Tennessee area, where he is currently the founding Treasurer of the not-for-profit Tennessee Colleagues Assistance foundation.


Victoria Robson, Ph.D.

Victoria Robson earned a Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Virginia Tech in 2007. While at Virginia Tech, Victoria worked as a graduate assistant in the Office of Academic Assessment. She joined the VIRG team in August 2007. Since her arrival, Victoria has been involved in several projects for Enrollment Management with a focus on analytics for financial aid and undergraduate admissions.


Carolyn Breda, Ph.D.

Carolyn Breda earned her Ph.D. in Sociology from Vanderbilt University. Her past professional experience largely involved federal- and state-funded evaluation services research in the areas of education, mental health, and juvenile justice. Carolyn also co-developed a measurement and feedback system, Contextualized Feedback Systems (CFS), designed to promote program improvement and organizational learning. Carolyn has recently joined the Research Analytics side of VIRG as a Senior Research Analyst. Her work will focus initially on Graduate and Professional research and faculty research, with other areas to be determined.


Danielle Marganoff

Danielle Marganoff earned her M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration from Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College. While a graduate student, Danielle served as a graduate assistant for both the Peabody Office of Graduate Admissions and VIRG. Prior to entering Peabody, her professional experiences include work as an undergraduate admissions counselor, and in publishing. Danielle will be working with undergraduate analytics, undergraduate surveys, and post-baccalaureate outcomes.


Mary Hutchens

Mary Hutchens comes to VIRG with significant experience in higher education, from administration to research to teaching. She is currently finishing up her Ph.D. in Higher Education Leadership & Policy at Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College. As a graduate student, Mary developed and implemented a number of studies and surveys examining college student behaviors and outcomes, along with faculty and teaching norms; became well versed in a variety of statistical methods; taught courses in organizational theory, enrollment management, and university governance; and worked closely with administrators at Vanderbilt and elsewhere to conduct research that would inform strategic planning and improve student outcomes. She looks forward to serving the Vanderbilt community as a member of the Research Analytics team at VIRG.


Linda Forceno
Associate Institutional Research Analyst

Linda Forceno joined the VIRG team in 2008 after more than 20 years of executive administrative experience in the non-profit world of the YMCA, as well as a brief stint of self-employment as the owner of a local restaurant/wine bar. Linda works on external surveys such as US News and is our main contact person for guidebooks and agencies requesting Vanderbilt data. She also provides support for the SACS Quality Enhancement Plan assessment project and assists the team with the Vanderbilt Visions program assessment as well as providing essential data entry, formatting and review.


Marcy Cooper
Outcomes Research Analyst

Marcy is in her second year as an MPP student at Peabody. Before coming to Vanderbilt, she was a high school history teacher at a private school in Maine. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education at the University of Maine at Farmington. She joined VIRG in October 2016 and will be working on tracking undergraduate and graduate outcomes.



Director, Institutional Data Governance

Daniel Kirby is the Director of Institutional Data Governance. Daniel began his career at Vanderbilt in 2012 as the Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) manager responsible for systems implementations and data reporting functions. He received his bachelor degree in Business Administration from Tennessee Technological University. Previous to Vanderbilt he was the Director of Information Systems at CGS Administrators, LLC. He has worked with executive leadership teams, large-scale healthcare administration systems, business acquisitions and divestitures, and multiple information systems and business processes transitions. Daniel leads the Institutional Data Governance effort for Vanderbilt University, chairing both the Data Standards & Reporting and the Data Architecture committees.



Senior Assistant Director, Business Intelligence

Don earned a bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems and Business Administration from Trevecca Nazarene University. Prior to coming to Vanderbilt in 1995, Don served as a Systems Analyst for the Federal Reserve System. Don began his career at Vanderbilt in Management Information Systems, where he spent eleven years. In 2006, he moved to the Office of the University Registrar, where he served for six years as the Technical Lead for the Systems Design and Support Services Team. In 2012, Don joined VIRG as the Senior Assistant Director of Business Intelligence. In this role, Don is responsible for organizing and performing a variety of tasks related to strategic planning and reporting.

Rahul earned his master’s degree in Computer Science from Villanova University in 2007. He worked as a Systems Analyst/.NET consultant for clients like FedEx World Corp and DG Corp before joining the VIRG Team in 2009. Rahul leads the VIRG data warehousing efforts and web applications and tool development.

Sruthi received her bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from Southwest Minnesota State University in 2010. Previously, she worked as a Business Objects Developer/Consultant for clients like Wells Fargo and Emptoris. Sruthi joined the VIRG team in 2012 as a Business Intelligence Analyst and currently does reporting related to Undergraduate Admissions and Student Records.

Kyle received his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Tennessee at Martin in 2011. Previously he worked as Facilities Coordinator for the University of TN – Martin’s Department of Housing managing their Residential Management Systems software and database. Kyle joined VIRG in May 2013 as a Computer Systems Analyst.

Andrew earned his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Tennessee at Martin in May of 2013. Before coming to Vanderbilt, he worked as a web developer for an education company, developing and maintaining web modules for online master’s degree and police academy students. He joined VIRG in September 2013 as a Business Intelligence Analyst.

Jason earned his bachelor's degree in Information Technology from the University of Central Florida in December of 2012. Previous to Vanderbilt, he worked as a Reporting Analyst for a sales company in the Nashville area. He joined VIRG in December 2015 as an Associate Business Intelligence Analyst.

Zack earned his bachelor’s degree in Music Technology from the University of Central Missouri in 2007, and is currently working towards a master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Illinois – Springfield. Before joining Vanderbilt, he worked in Data Management for EMI Music Publishing, and in Admin/Operations for World Vision. He joined VIRG in January 2016 as an Associate Business Intelligence Analyst.

Jennifer joined the university in 2013 as an Institutional Research Analyst serving both VIRG and AAUDE. Previously, Jennifer worked as an instructor and program administrator of graphic design, instructing on topics such as infographics, visual communication, and creative problem solving. She earned her B.F.A. at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. While at the University of Nebraska, Jennifer worked in the Office of Institutional Research & Planning assisting with comparative benchmarking.
